Had some pretty bad insomnia the other night. So I browsed Instagram and came across a really awesome wedding photographer. In came the envy. She had all these updates talking about how happy she was with being a wedding photographer and how lucky she was to have that job. Her photos were impossibly perfect and lovely. It made me think about how torn I am between choosing a safer more reliable type of photography like weddings and portraits...and then my art. One side is safe, easy and happy but boring. The other is difficult, dark and more sad than anything but it has all the freedom. I feel ashamed of all the dark and bloody things I create when I meet normal clients looking for nothing but simple well done portraits. Most of the time I'm lucky enough and they've seen my dark work and love it, regardless of what I'm doing for them that day. It feels like I'm getting to a point where I need to choose or keep these two sides very, very separate. ..
In other news, we got a new front door! Hence the black and white instead of the all white (which really inspired this late night photo idea). I knew it would be a great reason to keep using the space for photos but from now on I'll need a white sheet to make it all uniform. That or just double the white wall.
